SAFETY IS A TOP PRIORITY

Safety is a priority at KFKA. You can be assured that your children are playing safe in our fenced-in yard. Security cameras monitor the property at all times and outside access doors are locked with restricted access. In addition, our teachers have up-to-date CPR and First Aid training and have completed background screenings.

SCIENCE IS A BELOVED TOPIC BY TEACHERS AND KIDS HERE

Owner, Beth Davis, is a science teacher and has developed a hands-on science program where kids learn scientific concepts while having fun. Each child has access to a microscope, so they can make their observations at their own pace. Science also goes beyond the classroom in our garden, where children learn about biology, math and they get to get their hands dirty too!

SOCIO-EMOTIONAL SKILLS PRACTICED DAILY

Part of being ready for kindergarten means learning how to interact with other children and following instructions from teachers. Children learn how to work with each other during many aspects of our day, from the science lab, to circle time and in the playground. A good example is soccer lessons, which VPK kids participate in once a week. Soccer is not only great for physical development, but encourages teamwork, strategy, leadership skills and emotional regulation.

CARE FOR OUR ENVIRONMENT IS AN IMPORTANT CONCEPT WE TEACH AND LIVE HERE

VPK students establish a connection to the earth in our little garden. Learning to grow food and making other observations about the soil, the plants and the creatures that share the garden with us teaches the children just how important our environment is in our day to day lives. Other initiatives we practice in the school are to communicate in a paperless way via LifeCubby and to use environmentally friendly products to keep our classrooms clean, like Envirox, a non-bleach disinfectant.

LITERACY IS A CORE PART OF OUR CURRICULUM

Our teachers aim to provide your child with the tools they will need to be successful in reading and writing by the end of grade one. Recognition of letter sounds, reading books aloud along with the printed text and encouraging group conversations are just a few of the strategies used to boost your child’s literacy skills.

MATH STARTED EARLY MAKES IT EASIER LONG TERM

Math skills are taught in a fun and engaging way. Math and numbers are a big part of life and can be found inside and outside of the classroom. Our garden is transformed into a classroom as children are encouraged to think about numbers and patterns while caring for the plants. For example, children can count the number of flowers on a tomato vine and then know to expect that same number of tomatoes to grow over the coming weeks.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY IS PRACTICED DAILY; A HEALTHY BODY MEANS A HEALTHY MIND

At this young age, having a daily routine of physical activity has myriad benefits and lays the groundwork for healthy habits in the future. Children develop their gross and fine motor skills as they run, jump and climb. Weather permitting, VPK kids spend at least 90 minutes playing in our yard, which includes a play structure, tricycles and other toys. The yard is protected with shade sails and misting fans to combat the hot weather and keep mosquitos away. VPK kids also participate in soccer lessons once a week which not only has physical benefits, but also teaches the children concepts such as team work, leadership and self-regulation.

ACTIVE OWNER WITH EXTENSIVE CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE

Beth Davis knows and understands what your child needs to be successful in grade school and beyond. She holds a Masters and Educational Specialist degree in Education, and is a science teacher and author. Beth has developed many teaching tools for early childhood education. Her book, Hands On Mind On Preschool was developed in-house and is a highly-rated school resource by other teachers.

WE FOSTER AN ENGAGING LEARNING ENVIRONMENT THAT GETS AND HOLDS OUR CHILDREN’S ATTENTION

Academic, behavioral, social, and creative skills are taught in many different ways via hands-on, engaging learning throughout the day. Even though some formal instruction is used, subjects are taught in a hands-on way with small group exploration in the science lab, by preparing meals, participating in music lessons and physical play that includes soccer lessons.

EVERYDAY SITUATIONS ARE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES WITH CONSCIOUS DISCIPLINE

Using the method of Conscious Discipline, our teachers engage with our students in a caring and compassionate way. Everyday situations are turned into learning opportunities as teachers guide the students by talking them through the steps to help them solve their own problems in a patient and nurturing manner.

ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS
AT NO EXTRA COSTS
(ALL- INCLUSIVE!)

VPK students receive soccer instruction once a week, encouraging physical activity and teamwork. Weekly music lessons inspire creativity. The hands-on science lab and instruction provide not only academic lessons, but also critical thinking skills and self-regulation. These amazing enrichment programs are a part of our regular curriculum and are all-inclusive in our tuition.

STAY UP TO DATE WITH OUR LIFECUBBY APP

You can see how much fun your child is having at KFKA every day with our communication tool and app, LifeCubby. LifeCubby allows you to communicate easily with our teachers via digital messaging. Teachers can track and tag your child’s progress and make this information available to you. Best of all, teachers can snap and send pictures to you so you can see how your child is playing and learning.

FOSTERING HEALTHY EATING HABITS WITH OUR FOOD PROGRAM

Following guidelines from the Florida Department of Health’s Child Care Food Program (CCFP), healthy, fully 100% organic meals and snacks are prepared in-house daily. Your child will get to eat well-balanced mid-morning snack and lunch that includes organic milk or bottled water. Healthy eating habits instilled early in childhood will follow your child as he or she grows and will reduce the risk for obesity in the future. We can cater to your child’s needs if they have any food allergies, sensitivities or restrictions. As well, our facility is a peanut-free environment.

Exciting and Enriching Monthly On-site Field Trips

Exposing children to a wide array of live demonstrations with in-house visits from community experts is a monthly highlight. Visitors include science and animal experts, and authors who do readings and book signings. For a nominal fee, children are guided by members of the community to explore the farm, the zoo, and museums, too, through these enriching experiences we host at the school.

Our VPK Kids Outperform Kids Across The State

Teachers at the local elementary school have recognized us for having a high percentage of children who go on to be on the honor roll and test as gifted. Our unique curriculum fully prepares your child for academic success by initiating problem-solving, creative thinking, building on their strengths, and addressing any areas of weakness
