Now more than ever it is important to limit expose to anyone outside your home to lessen your risk of getting COVID. Kids having play dates and family events should be avoided as much as possible.
If you find out that you or your child has been in close contact to someone who tests positive to COVID, your child will not be permitted to return to school until COVID protocols from the CDC have been observed.
What counts as close contact?
- You were within 6 feet of someone who has COVID-19 for a total of 15 minutes or more
- You provided care at home to someone who is sick with COVID-19
- You had direct physical contact with the person (hugged or kissed them)
- You shared eating or drinking utensils
- They sneezed, coughed, or somehow got respiratory droplets on you
If you or your child has been exposed, when can they return to school?
- If your child has no symptom, after 7 days after receiving a negative test result, on the 7th day a second test must be done. If both tests are negative, the child can return to school. Proof of both negative tests must be provided to return to school.
- Without testing, quarantine 10 days after exposure if there are no symptoms present after the 10 days your child may return to school
After stopping quarantine, you should
- Watch for symptoms until 14 days after exposure.
- If you have symptoms, immediately self-isolate and contact your local public health authority or healthcare provider.
- Wear a mask, stay at least 6 feet from others, wash your hands, avoid crowds, and take other steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
If someone in your home has COVID and the child tests Negative, when can the child return to school?
- Close contacts to cases of COVID-19 should be allowed to return after their quarantine period. The recommended quarantine for COVID-19 is 14 days from their last date of exposure to the case.
- There are additional options that reduce the quarantine period for asymptomatic close contacts.
- An alternative quarantine option that asymptomatic close contacts may follow includes being tested by PCR on Day 6 or later. If negative, they may leave quarantine after Day 7. Without testing, quarantine can end after Day 10, if no symptoms have been reported during daily monitoring.
If your child has tested positive for COVID, when can they return to school?
- The Child must quarantine for 14 days. After the 14 day they must have a negative test result to return to school. Proof of the second test after the 14 day quarantine must be provided to the school.
