Silver Door Kindergarten Weekly Letter October 6, 2017

Dear Parents of Kindergarten Students,

This week the students continued learning about nouns – a naming word that names a person, place or thing. This week however we learned that an ANIMAL is also a noun. We have been talking about different ways that baby animals move. We learned that MOVEMENT is how something or someone can get from place to place. We read the stories, “Pouch” and “The Tortoise and the Hare.” We learned that in both stories the characters go on an ADVENTURE, which we learned is going someplace new. We learned that going on an adventure is EXCITING, which we learned is a feeling we get when we are going to do something we like or that it is new. The students also learned about the words ARRIVED and EXHAUSTED. These words are the vocabulary words we see and hear in the stories. Our letter of the week was the letter “Aa.” This week I introduced a few spelling words to the students. The students were excited to learn new words. As this is our first spelling test I have decided to give the students time to practice the words this weekend and the test will be given on Monday October 9th, 2017.

In math we focused on the numbers six and seven. We are taking our time going through this chapter because it is going through the different ways to have two numbers make up the sum of six or seven. We will be doing this for the number eight and nine as well. I am confident that with the extra time we are taking the students will excel on their chapter three test!

During soccer we warmed up with a game of On the River but it was interrupted by a little bit of rain therefore we had to relocate to the front of the school. After we continued playing a game of Traffic Lights and What’s the Time Mr. Wolf?

In music the students continued learning about different vocal pitches and ranges. This week we had our own Leilani Brice compose a song that the students sang as an introduction to the class.

Reminder: Next Friday, October 13th, 2017 our classroom is set to take our school pictures. Your student may come dressed in any clothing but MUST bring their uniform in their book bags to change afterwards.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs. Angie
