Science and Literacy Integration – Saturday, April 22, 2017

The fourth Family Participation Activity for the 2016-2017 year at Kids For Kids Academy’s Super Science Sleuths program was held on April 22nd, 2017. During the activity, which integrated Science and Literacy, families gathered and learned about careers in science.  After the teacher introduced and read the first two chapters of the book Bindi’ Irwin’s Wild Life, families broke up into small groups and finished reading the story.  The book is an autobiography of Bindi Irwin, a child wildlife environmentalist who is following in her father’s footsteps.  Her dad Steve Irwin was a wildlife explorer who died after being impaled by a stingray while filming an educational special.  Following the story, groups brainstormed and made a web with all of the science related careers they could think of.  Families go to take home the book to create a home literacy connection.

A total of 50 families attended, representing 81% of our enrolled students.
