Dear Parents,
What an action packed week we had at our school.  The feedback for the fabulous school photo proofs was amazing.  Many of you have reached out to be to see if you could get digital images for less than the $25 per image the photographer was charging.  I reached out to her and this is what she is going to do for our families.  One digital picture is $25, a package for up to 4 is $50, 5-8 is $75, all images would have printing rights up to an 8×10 and to use on social media etc.  I also let her know that since her website has a minumum order of $40 and many of you already ordered packages but just want a few other item, we have found a workaround for her website.  If you wish to order less than $45, send her an email at info@yesisilva.com with the image numbers and what you want to order.  Drop off the payment here at the school (cash or check to Yesenia Silva) and she will process your orders.  I saw all of the images and they were just amazing.  Please keep in mind if you did not preorder, you can still get the packages but at an additional $5 per package charge.  If you did order a package, you will have until Wednesday to put a heart on your favorite photo.  If you do not do so, she will choose the one that is the best and print your package.  Also, some families have expressed an interest in using Yesi for your holiday family photos.  She will be doing a shoot for families from our school here at the school by appointment only.  Email her if you are interested and she will give you the dates.
This week we welcomed many new families to our Monthly Family Story Time.  Sorry if it seemed a bit chaotic, we did not expect such a big crowd.  We will know for next month to  have a second staff member and encourage more families to attend.  Special thanks to Miss Sammy who will be taking over as our Story Time facilitator.  I heard that she reads a mean story!  I loved doing Story Time myself for the first 12 years that the school was open.  I felt though that it was time to pass the reins to our younger future educators who are following the college path to become certified teachers.  Great experiences for them and for our families as well.  I will be passing along my multitude of Jammies to Miss Sammy.  If you missed it, we will be getting your child’s free book of the month to them over the next couple of days.
This week found our VPK, K, and First Graders on their first fieldtrip.  Things started a bit hectic at the Pumpkin Patch as the person in charge of the education program had an emergency and did not show up.  Thankfully, a replacement was sent and the kids got to hear a story in the pumpkin patch and stroll around and pick out a pumpkin of their own.  Check out the photos on our facebook page.  www.facebook.com/kidsforkidsacademy . Special thanks to all of the parents who came to volunteer and especially Noah’s dad who ran out and got the kids bottled water for me.
Finally, thank you to everyone who has already sent in a back of candy to be donated to homeless kids and a bag of non candy items for our own students to enjoy in our Halloween Parade.  We will accept both items up until October 30th.  Remember to mark your calendar for our Halloween Happening on the 31st at 9:00 am.  We can use all the volunteers we can get!
Have a great weekend,

Dear Parents,
Say Cheese!  This week our student took school pictures.  Check your email early next week for a link to view the images. If you ordered a package, use the link to put a heart on your ONE favorite pose for the photographer to print.  You will have a week to make your choice or she will pick her favorite for you.  We took photos of all students so if you did not order, it is not too late.  If your child was absent for picture day we will let you know in the future when the make up day will take place.
My staff has worked hard to assess your child using the Ages and Stages assessment.  All students younger than VPK who have been at our school for at least a month were assessed. I personally reviewed and scored all of the assessments. I will be reaching out to parents if there are developmental concerns or even borderline scores.  If you do not hear from me you can assume that all is fine. I will have the assessments on my desk for the next two weeks if you are curious and want to stop by my office I will gladly share the results.  After that, we will file the assessments in your child’s school folder so that we can use it as a basis for future developmental comparisons.
HALLOWEEN HAPPENING is just around the corner….For those of you who are new to our school, this event takes place from 9 am -11 am and we welcome as many volunteers as possible.  Kids can come to school in their costumes with a change of clothing in a bag.  Nothing scary, and no masks, toys or weapons.  We ask all kids to donate one bag of NON CANDY items (little party favors, goldfish, gummies, etc) for our costume parade.  Although we don’t permit candy in our school, we do ask our students to donate a bag of candy (no nuts please) as we make bags every year so that homeless kids can enjoy the simple pleasure of a bag of candy on Halloween.  Thank you for those of you who have already brought in items.  We will collect all items at the front desk.
Finally, an update on our playground restoration….Special thanks to Arielle Carranza’s grandpa who surprised us and put up our new shade sails on the playground.  He is also going to put up the beautiful canopies donated by Anthony Lopez’s family.  We are just waiting for the wood poles to arrive.  It has been hard to find them since Irma but they are on the way.  We are hoping that in my next letter I am able to report that they are up!
Have a great weekend,

Dear Parents,
We were sad that we had to cancel our playground shade installation.  Not only did everything not arrive, but Saturday is to be a real rainy day.  Thank you to everyone who signed up and for your willingness to help.

Attention parents of VPK and Silver Door students: We started passing out field trip forms on Friday from the front desk.   If you do not receive it, please be sure to ask the front desk for it one day next week.  Our first field trip is scheduled for October 20th.  The form and letter will give you all of the other dates and some important guidelines.
FACEBOOK…are you our friend?  I am doing my best to post photos almost everyday.  I also mention the class that is in the post so check it out and share the photos with your friends and family.  If you are not our friend on Facebook, stop by our page: www.facebook.com/kidsforkidsacademy.
Monday we will send home preorder envelopes for school pictures.  If you have more than one child in the school, let us know if you want a photo of both children together and/or separate. Sibling photos will take place on the picture day for the oldest child.  We take photos of all children so that we will have them for the school yearbook, however, the photographer will only print photo packages for families who turn in payment envelopes.  If you are on the EFT program, we can gladly draft your accounts for school pictures so please indicate that on your envelope.  You may send your child in any clothing for the photo but please send a school uniform to change them into after photos are taken.
HALLOWEEN HAPPENING is just around the corner….For those of you who are new to our school, this event takes place from 9 am -11 am and we welcome as many volunteers as possible.  Kids can come to school in their costumes with a change of clothing in a bag.  Nothing scary, no masks, toys or weapons.  More information will be forthcoming!
Finally, we will be collecting NEW backpacks, school supplies, and individually wrapped school snacks and toiletries for families who will be relocating here from Puerto Rico.  We have been alerted by the school district that they expect to welcome many kids to the public schools and we want to help them feel welcome.
Have a great weekend,

Dear Parents,
We are so excited that the 10 shade sails we ordered to shade our playground have arrived.  So far we have not had any volunteers from my last weekly letter to step forward and help up to install them next Saturday.  If you are available to help us with making the holes in the ground for the post and hang the sails on October 7th, please let me know.  Also if you have any kind of tool that would make it easier for us to make the holes in the ground so we don’t have to rent them, we would appreciate that as well.  We are planning to begin the project at 9:00 a.m.
We were happy to have families attending our first  Story Time of the new school year last night.  If you missed it, we are sending home the free book of the month with your child
.
Attention parents of VPK and Silver Door students: Next week you will be getting a letter home with important information as well as the field trips we have scheduled for the year and field trip guidelines. If you do not receive it, please be sure to ask the front desk for it.
As mentioned earlier due to Irma, we postponed billing the last annual fee of $35 for the Life Cubby subscription.  Families on EFT will see that amount coming out of their draft accounts with their weekly or monthly tuition on Monday.  We have lots of things coming up for the month of October.  See the margin for school picture dates as they are divided by class.  Students may come dressed in any clothing for school pictures but are asked to bring a school uniform in a bag to change into afterwards so we don’t stain your good clothing with our art projects.  Next week we will send home preorder envelopes.
Although Miami Dade County Public Schools are closed on Monday, we are open.  Our VPK, K and 1 programs will be non-instructional (camp) so students who are absent will not be marked absent.  If you have older siblings you need care for on that day, please respond to this email so that we can be prepared to receive them.
Finally a very happy holiday to our Jewish families celebrating Yom Kippur.
Have a great weekend,

Kids For Kids Academy Newsletter

Dear Parents,
Things are back to normal here at Kids For Kids Academy and I hope they are getting back to normal in your home.  Our students are settling back in nicely and all of our playgrounds have reopened after having the trees cut and temporary fences put up.  Thank you to all of the families who were able to donate their tuition refund back to the school.  It was greatly appreciated and was a big help in paying to have the trees cut so we could reopen the playground.
As mentioned in my mid week update, we are looking for volunteers to help us install shade sails on the trees and also metal pipes to bring shade to our infant toddler playground.  If this is something you can do, we would like to tentatively do this on Saturday, October 7th.  We will need to rent tools for digging the holes unless there is a parent who has something like that, and lots of manpower.  Please reply to this email or let someone know at the school if you would like to help.  With your help, our playground will be better than ever.  Every cloud has a silver lining.  We are so fortunate that Miami avoided the devastation that Texas and the Keys sustained during Hurricane Irma.
As the school year started one month ago, we ask that new families to our school bring in their child’s immunization and physical forms, no later than next Friday, September 29th. Ms. Delly will be notifying the rest of our families if their forms are due to expire in the coming weeks. Please note that the forms must be originals from the doctor’s office. Copies or faxes are not permissible.
Next week our teachers will begin our Ages and Stages Assessments.  This is something we do after about 30 days of school for all children younger than VPK.  These informal assessments tell us if there are any developmental areas of concern.  It will take 2-3 weeks to score all of the children and  we will get the results to you if there are areas of concerns.  For this reason, your child’s teacher may ask you questions to help them with this assessment.  VPK teachers have just completed their first of 3 assessments and at the end of the school year, VPK parents will get all 3 assessments so that you can see the progress over time.
Please make sure to keep an eye on your school calendar as well as the calendar summaries in the right margin to keep up with our school events.  Our first Family Storytime will be on 9/28 at 7:00 pm.  It only lasts 30 mintues so arrive on time in your jammies.  Everyone who attends will get a free book.  If you miss it, we will get the book to your child later in the week.
I will be taking a couple of days to recharge following the whirlwind of Hurricane Irma and our restoration.  I will be out Monday-Wednesday and will have limited access to email but if you need to reach me certainly try.  In my absence, Delly is second in command will be able to take care of all your needs.  Delly is here until 5:00 pm.  After that, Amanda can assist you in anything you need.
Have a great weekend,

Dear Parents,
Thank you to everyone who replied to my last email.  In all 77 parents sent a reply to enter for the drawing for the $50 tuition credit.  We put all of the names into a box and my daughter drew the winning family.  Congratulations to Ian Davidson’s family.  We will be crediting your account $50.  Be on the look out as I may offer some sort of prize once a month or so to see who is reading these little letters.
My apologies to the Silver Door classes as the class link was not correct in the margin.  Hopefully you all got the private email I sent with the letter and this week the link should be fixed so you can read your class letters using the link in the yellow margin.  For all families, clicking on the class link in the margin will keep you up to speed with what is going on in your child’s class….and the teachers really take time to write it, so I hope you will take a moment each week to read it.
This week found our students settling into their class routines.  We are seeing much less crying and separation anxiety with our newer kids.  I would also like to thank parents for settling into the routine and getting your kids here on time for our breakfast window, as well as parents for students in the East Wing arriving in time for formal instruction to begin.
A little word about schedules.  By now teachers have tweaked their schedules to keep up with the demands and well-being of their students.  Please keep in mind in our younger classes in the main wing, the teacher may not be following the schedule to a “T” for a few weeks as they need to take the lead from the maturity level of her students.  Perhaps it states circle time, storytime, or playground first thing in the morning.  You may arrive and see all the kids playing with toys on the floor instead.  This could be so the teacher has a chance to teach them cleanup routines or perhaps they just need more time to play before jumping into their day or they need to get on a diaper changing routine.  Sometimes it takes the younger kids a whole month to be “on schedule”.  Please remember it is a process and a goal to work towards.
Hopefully, as each day goes by, you will see more and more in the Cubby. With the students getting into their routines and the demands for the teachers decreasing, they will be able to spend more time on their iPads posting entries. When in doubt feel free to pick up the phone and call and we can give you updates on your child.  Also, parents are asked to check their children’s nails weekly as they grow fast and this will prevent accidental scratches.
A few words about hurricanes and tropical storms as we are in that season.  In the event of a storm of any kind, to determine if we will be open or closed, please stay tuned to your local news.  If they declare it is not safe for Miami-Dade County School students to attend school, and they close schools, we will do the same.  Also, to assist families who went through the hurricane in Texas, we will be a collection site for the military effort mentioned below.
Thank you for any assistance you can offer.  If you have not already done so, please review our parent handbook at the back of our calendar for other policies and procedures.
Please be sure to mark your calendars for Open House and note the dates and some changes in the margins.  Also due to a scheduling conflict Parents Night Out will be held on 9/23.  Finally, in observance of Labor Day, we will be closed on Monday.  Parents who participate in the EFT auto draft program may see that funds will not come out of your account until a day later since banks will be closed on Monday.
Have a great long weekend with your families,
davis
