Dear Parents,
We had a great start of the summer with the opening of our summer camp this week.  Thanks for your patience as we waiting for our school T-Shirts to arrive.  Remember, your child is free to wear the school T-Shirt daily or the polo shirt, the choice is  yours.  This week our campers spent the week getting ready to celebrate their Dads for Father’s Day.  The week ended with an awesome Donuts With Dad event on Friday morning.  Be sure to check out our Facebook page to see the photos of the kids with their Dad’s and other special men in their lives.  We will have those photos for you  shortly in the front window.  When you see them, go ahead and take them as our little gift to you.
The kids also had a “spashtacular” time during our water play day on Friday.  Please remember to send your child to camp on Fridays in their bathing suit with a complete change of clothing and a labeled towel and sneakers and socks in a plastic grocery bag.  For their own safety, water shoes should also be sent in.  Our students also enjoyed a new program we are offering to all students except Green Door called Digital Storybook.  Students are able to watch as animation comes alive and view stories projected on the wall instead of in a little or big book.  It has been a huge hit.    We have a free trial for the school and families can also access it at home on your computer or tablet.  If you wish to try it out with your child here is the information on the website and the log in information.  I hope you enjoy trying it out.

Our oldest kids will be going on 5 fieldtrips this summer.  Kids in Brown and Orange door may attend these trips as long as parents sign a permission form.  In house trips are $10 per child and off site trips are $12 as we must account for the bus.  Please mark these fieldtrip dates and keep in mind if they fall on a Friday, those students will not participate in waterplay on those days.
  • June 23, onsite, Adventures in a Box.  This trip as it is on site will also be opened to Gold Door Students who wish to pay the $10 admission fee.
  • July 5, Regal Cinemas Kendall, $12
  • July 18, Bird Bowl, $12
  • July 28, Actor’s Playhouse $12
  • August 9, Regal Cinemas Kendall, $12.
The progress reports for children in all classes with
the exception of VPK, Kindergarten, and First Grade
are completed and can be viewed on Life Cubby.

Finally, although I will be sending a letter each week, the classes will be sending a recap every other week since you will get a daily recap in Life Cubby.  This week you will only find my recap.  Next week, I will remind you to click on the class links on the sidebar to reach the class letters.

Have a great weekend,

Dear Parents,
This week we closed the door on the 2016-2017 school year and gear up for a summer of fun.  Our VPK families enjoyed a magnificent VPK graduation and our K/1 families enjoyed an end of the year luncheon.  Both activities were made so special thanks to our amazing staff.
Our staff spent the day on Friday getting the school ready for our summer Passport For Fun.  The first week of summer will be dedicated to getting ready to celebrate our student’s dads or the special men in their lives.  Remember to mark your calendars for our annual Donuts With Dad event that will take place on Friday, June 16th from 7:45-9:00 a.m.  We invite all dad’s or any special men in the lives of our students to stop by and have a little breakfast treat with your child.
You will find that our academic program will continue during the summer, but with a bit of a twist.  For the most part, your child will have the same staff member for summer, but please keep in mind that just like families take two weeks off over the summer, as those numbers go down, our staff also takes their vacations.  Please know that the quality of instruction will not change as other staff members will be stepping in.  You will also notice that we will have volunteers at our school this summer.  Please keep in mind that volunteers follow strict guidelines.  They must first have a level 2 background screening before we allow them on the premises.  They also are NEVER left alone with children and NEVER take children to the bathroom.  They must be at least 16 years of age and most are individuals who have an interest in the field of education.  Some are actually students working on AA degrees in Education at Miami Dade.  You can identify them as they will all be wearing a VOLUNTEER lanyard. Volunteers are closely monitored and we find that it is a great contribution to our program as it provides a way to lower our already low ratios.
Over the summer we also add in some special things.  Twice a week, students will participate in a 30 minute program called Digital Storybook.  This is a program that provides books to be read and animated, much like the audio books the kids enjoy with the teacher.  However this program gives another layer as the book is actually animated and projected using a projector.
In addition to Digital Storybook, we will continue our soccer and music program.  Our Red Door kids who don’t participate in soccer will be going to The Hero Gym on Thursdays from 10:45-11:30.  The Hero Gym is located at the end of the shopping center and we will have plenty of staff on hand to safely walk them over there.  By the way, the Hero Gym also offers birthday parties to our students for a rate of $150 an hour if you wish to have your child’s party there during school hours.
One thing the kids really enjoy over the summer is our Water Play Fridays.  For this we put out several things that act as sprinklers during the kids playground time.  To make it easier on the staff, we ask that on water Fridays, Please send your child in their bathing suits with water shoes.  In a plastic bag, please send a complete labeled change of clothing (school T-Shirt), shorts, sneakers, socks, and a towel.  Those children who wear diapers should come in a swimming diaper.
Last but not least, thank you to the wonderful families of Yellow Door for providing our delicious teacher appreciation lunch this week!  Thanks also for opening your hearts and your wallets to show our teachers how much you care.  You donations provided our full time staff with $100 and our part time staff $75 or $50 depending on the hours they work.  Please remember that your child may wear a school T-shirt all five days of the week over the summer.  We hope to have a new supply of school T-Shirts on Monday.

  Dear Parents,

As mentioned in my mid-week update, we want to thank all of those most generous parents for contributing to our end of the year teacher gift program. You have really helped to make everyone feel so special. Monday will be the last day we collect for that so that we can make the presentation at Graduation this coming Wednesday. Speaking of graduation, we ask that VPK families pick up their children no later than 4:00 so that our VPK teacher can get ready for this special night and so that your little graduates will be at Jack Gordon Elementary on time at 5:30. The ceremony will start promptly at 6:00 and promises to hold some wonderful memories for your child. Graduation tickets will be sent home on Monday with all families who have a zero balance to their school accounts.
Next week we will also host our Purple Door end of the year luncheon and award ceremony for all K/1 students and two guests per child. Guests are asked to arrive at the Clubhouse in Country Walk by 11:30 so that we can start on time. Kudos also to our K/1 teachers for hosting a fabulous field day this week. I will be posting photos to our Facebook page today.
Next Thursday will be our last day of our fall term and we will work really hard on Friday to get ready for summer camp. Please make sure that you take home ALL of your child’s belongings so that we can do a really great job having the school transformed for the start of camp on Monday. Please remember we are CLOSED on Friday June 9th. Speaking of summer, students are able to wear the school T-Shirt all five days of the week over the summer if they wish. You can also wear the blue polos. We will be getting a new shipment of school T-Shirts next week if you need some new ones to get you through the hot summer ahead. We will also tell you in the letter next week more about the summer program including our fabulous water days!
If you have not already picked them up, families who ordered class photos or yearbooks, you can get them from someone at the front desk. We still have a few extra yearbooks left if you would like to get one but did not order one. There is a sample on display at the front desk.
Thank you to the many families who filled out our NAEYC surveys. The lucky raffle ticket winner was Mia Rios. We will be crediting her family a $50 tuition credit. Last but not least, thank you to the wonderful families of Green and Red Doors for providing our delicious teacher appreciation lunch this week!

Have a great weekend,

Dear Parents,Have you ever traveled around the world? This summer we will embark on year 3 of our Passport For Fun. Over the summer our students will have a chance to visit 10 different countries and learn about customs, traditions and much more. As we begin wrapping up our school year program, we are excited about the places our students will “visit” with us over the summer.

Our VPK kids are super busy getting ready for graduation and our K/1 classes are getting ready for their end of the year luncheon to be held on June 6th. Both events promise to be special for all families.
We have gotten another huge slew of surveys in and will gladly accept those that still need to be turned in. The bigger the response, the better for our accreditation application. Some of you have asked about the raffle. We have been clipping the name labels off the envelopes or making new ones for those that did not come with one. We will fold all of those names in half for our $50 tuition credit drawing. We can accept those surveys until June 2 and I will announce the winner in our next weekly letter. Thanks also to everyone who has already participated in the end of the year teacher gift. We will continue to accept those as well as EFT accounts until June 2 as well.
For those of you who signed up for a class photo, those have been ordered and we expect to have them to you on Wednesday or Thursday of next week. If you participate in the EFT program and you ordered a photo, you will see it come out in this upcoming EFT. We also expect yearbooks to be in by then. If you have not signed up for one and still wish to preorder one, the sign up sheet is in the front window. Please make sure to mark you calendars that we will be closed on Monday, May 29th for Memorial Day and also on June 9th for professional development as we get the school ready for our summer of fun!Last but not least, thank you to the wonderful families of Yellow Door for providing our delicious teacher appreciation lunch this week!

  Dear Parents,
Sorry this is getting to you a day late.  We have been really busy here at the school.  Our oldest kids had a fabulous fieldtrip to Bird Bowl.  In case you missed it, check out our Facebook page to see the photos.  We also had a small intimate group for Family Story Tiime.  If you missed it, your child will be getting their free book of the month this week.  I am so happy to see so many families using our Family Lending Library.  Remember your child can take a free book every night if they wish and return it when you are done.  We also accept used book donations and recycle them for this purpose.
Thank you to the 26 families who have turned in their NAEYC survey.  If you have not turned it in, please do so as soon as possible as we need to have 75% of the surveys returned (120) to begin our renewal of our National Certification.  Also, thanks so much to those families who have already turned in their end of the year teacher gift envelopes.  If you still wish to participate in this program we will accept those gifts until June 5th.  If you participate in the EFT program and would like us to EFT your account, you can reply to this email and I will take care of that for you or simply turn in the envelope and write EFT with the amount on it.
Our teachers are in assessment mode and will spend the next two weeks working on the end of the year assessment.  Non VPK, K and 1 students will receive those assessment results through Life Cubby.  VPK, K, and 1 families will get a hard copy of the assessment on the last day of school.  I will let families know when they can access the Life Cubby Assessments.
In Science Lab our students learned about reflection, light, and shadows.  Our students ages 3-5 used mirrors and shapes to create kaleidoscope designs.  They also used flashlights and the sun to cast shadows.  Our older kids learned about the power of the sun and used special sunprinting paper to burn images onto the paper.  Make sure to see all these photos on our Facebook page.
In case you missed it, there are 8×10 class photos hanging in the front window.  If you wish to order one, simply write the number you would like next to your child’s name.  We will take these orders until Tuesday and should be able to have those photos ready for our my next Monday.  We will also be taking order for our 2017 school Yearbook.  This book is about 70 pages in color and is a great keepsake for your child.  As this book is very expensive to produce, we will only place the order for the number that are PRE ORDERED.  I will have a sample on Tuesday and we will take orders until Friday.  The cost of the yearbook is $20.
Please mark your calendar that our school will be closed on May 29th for Memorial Day and also on June 9th for professional Development and to get ready for summer camp that will begin on June 12th.  Our regular program will continue for the summer, but we will be adding a water play day once a week for the kids to have a “splashtacular” time!
Last but not least, thank you to the wonderful families of Purple Door for providing our delicious teacher appreciation lunch this week!

Dear Parents,Lots and lots to share, please read carefully….This week we celebrated our Mom’s at our Muffins for Mom Event. We had an astounding turnout of 93%. Thank you to everyone who stopped by and the biggest thanks of all my wonderful staff who came to work around 7:00 a.m. to make the morning so special. I also thank them for reaching into their hearts and also using their own money to buy extra special food and buy gifts for the moms. I know you will all treasure the gift that your child made you. We have posted the photos on our school facebook page. You can view them by going to
www.facebook.com/kidsforkidsacademy
We have also ordered copies of the photos for all of our moms. When you see them in the front window, please feel free to take them as our little gift to you.
On Monday you will be getting a very important envelope. In it you will find two things. The first one is a survey. As part of our National Accreditation, we are required to have parents complete this survey prior to our renewal every five years. As we are coming up on that renewal, we ask that you please fill it out and return it as soon as possible. If we do not get enough responses, we will not be able to reapply. Please be so kind as to fill it out and return it. You may seal the envelope if you wish or leave it unsealed. Each family who turns in a survey will get a raffle ticket. On June 1, we will hold a drawing and give away a $50 tuition credit to one lucky family.
Also in the envelope you will find an little brown envelope. That envelope is for families who wish to participate in the end of the year teacher gift contributions. Many years ago we were approached with this concept….A parent shared with us that when she gets exceptional service someplace, she gives a monetary “tip”. This was a great idea. If you would like to participate, the SUGGESTED contribution is $10 for each teacher in your child’s class. On the envelope you will see a number next to your child’s name. That number will tell you how many teachers are in the class. Siblings only have one envelope with both children’s names on it. All contributions will be put together and divided among the entire staff (excluding myself). This way, our wonderful office staff and Miss Maria in the kitchen are also included. The monetary gifts are given out at our VPK graduation as part of our staff appreciation. If you are on the EFT program and wish to contribute through EFT, simply write EFT and the amount on the outside of the envelope and we will draft your account.
VPK graduation is right around the corner. Tickets will be issued to all families who a zero balance to their accounts on Monday, June 5th. Graduation will be on June 7th at 6:00 pm. You are asked to drop off all graduates by 5:30 and stay to watch the graduation pre-show video. Bring your tissues! The ceremony will be over by 7:00 with light refreshments to follow.
Our VPK, K, and First graders will be going to Bird Bowl on May 16th. Please make sure the children wear socks for bowling.

Wishing all of our moms a wonderful Mother’s Day!

Have a great weekend,
