  Dear Parents,
Sorry this is getting to you a day late.  We have been really busy here at the school.  Our oldest kids had a fabulous fieldtrip to Bird Bowl.  In case you missed it, check out our Facebook page to see the photos.  We also had a small intimate group for Family Story Tiime.  If you missed it, your child will be getting their free book of the month this week.  I am so happy to see so many families using our Family Lending Library.  Remember your child can take a free book every night if they wish and return it when you are done.  We also accept used book donations and recycle them for this purpose.
Thank you to the 26 families who have turned in their NAEYC survey.  If you have not turned it in, please do so as soon as possible as we need to have 75% of the surveys returned (120) to begin our renewal of our National Certification.  Also, thanks so much to those families who have already turned in their end of the year teacher gift envelopes.  If you still wish to participate in this program we will accept those gifts until June 5th.  If you participate in the EFT program and would like us to EFT your account, you can reply to this email and I will take care of that for you or simply turn in the envelope and write EFT with the amount on it.
Our teachers are in assessment mode and will spend the next two weeks working on the end of the year assessment.  Non VPK, K and 1 students will receive those assessment results through Life Cubby.  VPK, K, and 1 families will get a hard copy of the assessment on the last day of school.  I will let families know when they can access the Life Cubby Assessments.
In Science Lab our students learned about reflection, light, and shadows.  Our students ages 3-5 used mirrors and shapes to create kaleidoscope designs.  They also used flashlights and the sun to cast shadows.  Our older kids learned about the power of the sun and used special sunprinting paper to burn images onto the paper.  Make sure to see all these photos on our Facebook page.
In case you missed it, there are 8×10 class photos hanging in the front window.  If you wish to order one, simply write the number you would like next to your child’s name.  We will take these orders until Tuesday and should be able to have those photos ready for our my next Monday.  We will also be taking order for our 2017 school Yearbook.  This book is about 70 pages in color and is a great keepsake for your child.  As this book is very expensive to produce, we will only place the order for the number that are PRE ORDERED.  I will have a sample on Tuesday and we will take orders until Friday.  The cost of the yearbook is $20.
Please mark your calendar that our school will be closed on May 29th for Memorial Day and also on June 9th for professional Development and to get ready for summer camp that will begin on June 12th.  Our regular program will continue for the summer, but we will be adding a water play day once a week for the kids to have a “splashtacular” time!
Last but not least, thank you to the wonderful families of Purple Door for providing our delicious teacher appreciation lunch this week!
Have a great weekend,

Dear Parents,Lots and lots to share, please read carefully….This week we celebrated our Mom’s at our Muffins for Mom Event. We had an astounding turnout of 93%. Thank you to everyone who stopped by and the biggest thanks of all my wonderful staff who came to work around 7:00 a.m. to make the morning so special. I also thank them for reaching into their hearts and also using their own money to buy extra special food and buy gifts for the moms. I know you will all treasure the gift that your child made you. We have posted the photos on our school facebook page. You can view them by going to
www.facebook.com/kidsforkidsacademy
We have also ordered copies of the photos for all of our moms. When you see them in the front window, please feel free to take them as our little gift to you.
On Monday you will be getting a very important envelope. In it you will find two things. The first one is a survey. As part of our National Accreditation, we are required to have parents complete this survey prior to our renewal every five years. As we are coming up on that renewal, we ask that you please fill it out and return it as soon as possible. If we do not get enough responses, we will not be able to reapply. Please be so kind as to fill it out and return it. You may seal the envelope if you wish or leave it unsealed. Each family who turns in a survey will get a raffle ticket. On June 1, we will hold a drawing and give away a $50 tuition credit to one lucky family.
Also in the envelope you will find an little brown envelope. That envelope is for families who wish to participate in the end of the year teacher gift contributions. Many years ago we were approached with this concept….A parent shared with us that when she gets exceptional service someplace, she gives a monetary “tip”. This was a great idea. If you would like to participate, the SUGGESTED contribution is $10 for each teacher in your child’s class. On the envelope you will see a number next to your child’s name. That number will tell you how many teachers are in the class. Siblings only have one envelope with both children’s names on it. All contributions will be put together and divided among the entire staff (excluding myself). This way, our wonderful office staff and Miss Maria in the kitchen are also included. The monetary gifts are given out at our VPK graduation as part of our staff appreciation. If you are on the EFT program and wish to contribute through EFT, simply write EFT and the amount on the outside of the envelope and we will draft your account.
VPK graduation is right around the corner. Tickets will be issued to all families who a zero balance to their accounts on Monday, June 5th. Graduation will be on June 7th at 6:00 pm. You are asked to drop off all graduates by 5:30 and stay to watch the graduation pre-show video. Bring your tissues! The ceremony will be over by 7:00 with light refreshments to follow.
Our VPK, K, and First graders will be going to Bird Bowl on May 16th. Please make sure the children wear socks for bowling.

Wishing all of our moms a wonderful Mother’s Day!

Have a great weekend,

Dear Parents,This week has been all about getting ready to celebrate our Moms and other special women in our students’ lives. Our Muffins With Mom event will take place on FRIDAY, MAY 12th from 7:45-9:00. Please plan to spend a few moments with your child when you drop off and see all of the wonderful things they have in store for you. If mom is unavailable, any special person in your child’s life is invited to attend…..It can even be Dad! We look forward to this special morning.

A special note for our VPK, and Purple Door Kids: As there was a conflict with Muffins with Mom, our last field trip of the school year to Bird Bowl has been changed to Tuesday, May 16th. Parents are invited to attend this field trip. Please remember that we cannot permit siblings to attend any of our field trips. Also for our VPK kids, we are still waiting for approval of our Venue (Jack Gordon Elementary) but we anticipate it will be approved for Thursday, June 7th. For graduation we ask that students be dropped off at Jack Gordon Elementary by 5:30pm, the ceremony itself will begin at 6:00pm. There will be light refreshments served. As our group graduating is small this year, we will be allowing families to have 6 tickets instead of the 4 we usually issue. The $60 graduation fee is due on May 15th. Families who participate in the EFT program, those funds will be withdrawn on that day through EFT. Also, please keep in mind families must have a zero balance to receive their graduation tickets. This is a special day for all and we can’t wait to share it with you.

This week we opened our new soccer field….5,000 square feet of artificial turf! What a huge improvement over our old soccer field.
Finally, a word about the EFT program. We schedule the weekly tuition draft every Thursday. It takes two business days for funds to leave your accounts and come into ours. We have had one or two parents tell us that the draft is hitting their accounts on Saturday at times. Please know that we have no control over when your bank transfers funds. Although we anticipate funds to be withdrawn from accounts on Mondays please note that tuition for all families is due the Friday before attending. We ask that you ensure funds are available the Friday before the upcoming week in case a weekend draft takes place. On the flip side, when there is a banking holiday on a Friday or Monday, funds usually won’t come out until Tuesdays.

Thank you so much to the parents of Orange Door for hosting this week’s Teacher Appreciation Lunch. Everything was delicious!

Have a great weekend,

Dear Parents,

This week the kids have all settled in on our new playground. The new big attraction are the little rakes. The kids are loving raking up the leaves and the absence of mulch is keeping our school much cleaner, not to mention less mulch going home in the children’s shoes. We expect that our soccer field will be done this weekend so Monday will hold new excitement once again!

Thank you to everyone who has signed up for their vacation weeks over the summer. Remember, families are able to take 2 weeks off and not be billed tuition over the summer. If you have not told us what weeks you wish to take off, please do so by June 1, you can see someone at the front desk or reply to this email and let me know your intentions.

This message is for families who have siblings starting in our school in August. We have held your spaces for the fall but as we are almost full for fall, all paperwork and registration fees for new incoming students must be completed by May 30th in order for us to continue holding your space for fall. All current students who will be returning for the fall, your registration for the new school year is due by June 30th.

Our Muffins with Mom event is right around the corner. For this event we invite each students to bring their mom, aunt, grandma or any special woman in their lives to participate. It will be held from 7:45-9:00 in your child’s classroom. Please plan to spend a few minutes having a muffin with your child and seeing the wonderful gifts the teachers have helped the children prepare.

This week we took group class photos. When they are ready, we will hang them in the front window and you may order a copy if you would like.

Finally, details will be coming soon for our VPK graduation. It will be held on EITHER June 6 or June 7. We are waiting to hear from the venue on the exact date. Also mark your calendars if your child is in Purple Door for the end of the year luncheon to be held on June 6 at the Clubhouse of Country Walk. Each child will be allowed to bring 2 guests to this event.

Have a great weekend,

Dear Parents,
Tons of excitement at our school this week. After having our playground closed for a week, the kids came back to school and were so surprised to see the mulch gone and beautiful artificial grass and blue rubber flooring. Wait until they return on Monday to find the track painted black with white road stripes and the soccer field covered in artificial grass. We even got little rakes and buckets. The kids had a great time raking the leaves.
Unlike most schools that do teacher appreciation day or teacher appreciation week, we try to appreciate our teachers everyday. What we do to spread out the appreciation is each week for the last 8 weeks of the school year, we ask that one class sponsor a lunch for the teachers and staff and everyone signs up to bring just one item. This week, the wonderful parents of Brown Door sponsored a teacher luncheon. What a great assortment of food. Many thanks to the parents of Brown Door. Next Friday, the lunch will be sponsored by Gold Door Families. Gold Door families will find the sign up sheet in the window.
This week in the Science Lab our little scientists continued their study on chemical changes in matter. They mixed vinegar and baking soda and watched as the gas that was produced filled a balloon. Students each poured their own test tube of vinegar down a funnel and were amazed when it erupted like a volcano. Not only did they love seeing it, but talked about and used their sense of hearing to hear the fizz. Don’t be surprised if they are also spelling the word “fizz” for you. They also discussed that they used their eyes and ears. Students noticed a pattern in the words as both words started with an “e” and ended with an “s” and both words had 4 letters. There are patterns all around us!
We had a nice intimate crowd for Family Storytime. Those who came met and fell in love with Miss Adrianna. She will be taking of over for me moving forward. Mark your calendar, the next one will be on May 18th at 7:00 pm. If you have never been, consider making it a monthly tradition.
Have a great weekend with your child!

Dear Parents,
What a fabulous week we had!  Special thanks to all of the parents who volunteered to make our Spring Egg Hunt such a huge success.  In all, students took part in 9 egg hunts where over 2,500 goodie filled eggs were hidden and found in a matter of minutes.  Thank you to all of the parents who supported our healthy initiative and refrained from sending candy in the eggs.  Our students had a wonderful time and they all learned a lesson in sharing as they made sure that everyone went home with the same amount of eggs.
Our oldest kids had a blast on their fieldtrip to the Miami Dade County Environmental Center.  They had a chance to learn about animals and their surroundings.  Check out our Facebook page for photos from the fieldtrip as well as egg hunt photos.
You may have noticed the bin in front of the fish tank.  Our school will, on an ongoing basis,  be collecting individually wrapped items like cereal bars, granola bards, cheese and peanut butter crackers, nuts, and baby wipes.  These items will be put in bags each month for homeless individuals who live in Miami.  Next time you are at the dollar store or the grocery store, please pick up just one item to add to the collection.
Next week our main playground will be closed as we will be doing our playground renovation.  This $26,000 project will beautify and upgrade our play surfaces. During this time, students will be relocated to other outdoor areas.  We chose next week as we know some of our families will be away for spring break.  Please note that our school is open next week even though Miami Dade County Schools is closed.  We will be closed on Friday, April 14th in observance of Good Friday.  Students in VPK, K, and 1 will have a camp week.  If they are absent they will not miss instruction.  There will be no weekly letter next week.  Stay tuned to Life Cubby to see what is being done on a daily basis in the classrooms.  Also, please remember after you read this letter to click on the class letter in the right hand margin.  The teachers take a lot of time to write these letters for you.
Finally, a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to decorate my office, and the kids and staff who made me feel so loved on my 50th Birthday today.  Few people can understand this, but this is my favorite place to spend my birthday.  The hugs, kisses and birthday songs make my day.  Although all my birthday surprises we so special, I have to see the child who took the time to make me a birthday chicken with a happy birthday bracelet (the chicken is now wearing it as a necklace) what the tip of the iceberg!  Each time I see that adorable chicken handmade with love, I will remember this special day.  I LYATTMAB (I Love you all to the moon and back).

Have a great weekend!
