Dear Parents,
It was so great to welcome everyone back to school this week. I hope you had some down time with your kids as the year came to a close. As we gear up for the second half of our academic year, our teachers are busy working on your child’s progress reports. They put a lot of time and effort spending time identifying the developmental milestones that your child has achieved. I will let you know once they are complete (should be first week in February) so that you will know to open and view it in Life Cubby. Do not be alarmed in any way if they have not mastered all of the objectives. We will continue to work with them through June to move them from one area to the next on the final progress report. Our Kindergarten classes will have a report card soon and our VPK teachers are doing the second of three assessments. Families will get those results at the end of the school year to compare the growth over time.
HEALTH INSPECTION UPDATE: We will be having an inspection from the Department of Health on Wednesday. If you have been notified that your child’s health forms are expired and you HAVE NOT brought new ones by Wednesday, your child, according to the Department of Health, cannot attend school until they have been brought in.
Construction update/Office Hours: We are excited that all renovations have completed and signed off on by Miami Dade County. Our Silver Door Classes and my new office are 100% complete as well as our new Teacher’s Lounge. If you need me and don’t see me inside the front door office, you will find me in my new office next door. I try and be here from 7:45/8:00 am to 6:00/6:30 pm. My door is always open and if you miss me shoot me an email and I will get right to you. With regard to our new Teacher’s Lounge, I have it stocked with bottled water, coffee, and snacks. If you wish to send in treats to be added, I will gladly put them in the lounge.
Fieldtrip UPDATE: We got a call from Jungle Island that they are not up and running from Irma. Instead of us going there, they will be coming here for the VPK/K/1 fieldtrip. The cost is the same, but no need for parents to take time off from work to chaperone.
VPK VOUCHERS FOR NEXT YEAR: If your child will be four by September 1, 2018 they will qualify for 3 hours of FREE VPK services at our school. You must apply for the VPK certificate. This is for ALL students who will be 4 by September 1. It is not income based. Go to www.vpkhelp.org to apply. Once they send you the certificate, bring it to Amanda to hold your space of Fall VPK. We must have all certificates from parents by March 1 to hold your space for the fall.
SPECIAL PROGRAMS: This week we had a very tiny but intimate Family Storytime. Mark your calendar so you don’t miss it next month. It will be on February 1st. Our VPK, K, and 1st graders had a great time with me in the Science Lab this week where they learned about temperature, ways to measure it, and the difference between hot and cold. They also had a chance to make pretend snow that they took back to class for their discovery areas. Our Gold Door kids also got to go to the lab this week, once for free exploration and once with Miss Ariel who helped them to experience the snow experiment.
Finally, we will be closed on Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Day. Have a great long weekend with your child.

Wishing you well,

davis

Dear Parents,

This was a thrilling week on all levels at our school. Our teachers were over the moon to find out that we surpassed our book fair goal and they all got every book they wished for to enhance their classroom libraries. We also had a visit from Santa himself. The kids loved taking photos with him and getting little gifts. If you have not seen the photos on our Facebook page, be sure to check them out www.facebook.com/kidsforkidsacademy and download them. I hope you enjoyed getting your child’s photo with Santa. If you did not pick it up, we have them taped outside our front door so be sure and pick it up in the days to come.
This week our students also took part in some themed days in our older classes. I loved seeing all the creative PJ’s and holiday sweaters. I know the teachers planned a lot of activities which culminated with holiday caroling on Friday, what beautiful music! I hope that you enjoy getting all of the holiday projects that the children have been creating this week and hope that your holiday season is wonderful. We had another great Family Story-time led by Miss Sammy this week, I hope your child is enjoying getting their free book each month as part of our commitment to literacy. Thank you to all of the parents who sent in holiday gifts of appreciation for both myself and my staff. It is so wonderful to feel appreciated!
Finally, just a reminder, we are closed the week of December 25th and will reopen on January 2nd. Those families who chose to have their annual tuition spread out over 52 weeks (42 for VPK, K, 1) you will see the draft come out on December 26th since the banks are closed on December 25th. Parents on the monthly billing cycle may also see their tuition come out a day or so late because of bank closures. Families who chose to have their annual tuition to be spread out over 51 weeks (41 weeks for VPK, K, 1) you will see no draft coming out the week of 12/25.
Families with elementary school age siblings, if you need care January 2-5 for your older child, please send an email to frontdesk@kidsforkidsacademy.com so that we can make sure there is plenty of staff on hand to receive your child. The cost for those non-school days is $36 per child per day unless you have school readiness. Amanda can help you with those daily rate.
I hope you enjoy the time with your children and your families and a New Year filled with only wonderful things; good health, happiness, love, and prosperity.

Wishing you well,

davis

Dear Parents,

Thank you so so much for your generosity! Thanks to your support of our book fair, we far surpassed our goal and we were able to choose $1625 in FREE books for our school. Thank you also to everyone who purchased a book for your child’s class. All of the books that were left in the teacher wish book boxes were purchased for them with the proceeds of the book fair. Our students have TONS of books to ready now. A big hug also goes to those of you who chose a heart from our school angel tree. EVERY heart was chosen which means the holidays will be much brighter for some of our students and their families that can use some holiday joy. If you took a heart, please bring in the wrapped gift with the heart on top so that we can get them to the proper children.
This week our oldest students had a great time at Actor’s Playhouse. We took 69 children and were thrilled to be able to take 19 parents/grandparents with us. The show was wonderful! We are thrilled to be welcoming SANTA himself to our school. Please note, many of you have expressed that you would be going out of town at the end of the week so we have arranged for SANTA TO ARRIVE ON WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 20th. Please mark your calendars for this date change and plan to arrive prior to 9:00 am. We will be taking photos of every child with Santa between 7:30 and 9:00 am. We have also purchased small gifts for each child from Santa. The photos will be posted on our Facebook for your to download and we will also print one for every child.
Finally, I was called by our local scout pack and was informed that one of their scouts lost his mother unexpectedly. To help this family, OPTIONS TO EAT will be having a food truck fundraiser on our campus on THURSDAY, December 21st. They will feature a family friendly menu and will be parked in our parking lot from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm so that the community can come out and eat. They will be donating 30% of all sales to the Goodwin Family. Please consider picking up dinner from the food truck on Thursday to support this family.

Have a great weekend,

Dear Parents,
There are so many events taking place at our school over the next two weeks!
  • Our Angel Tree hearts will be ready for picking on Monday. Each heart will represent a student from our school whose family could use a little bit of extra holiday joy.  Should you wish to pick one of their names and have your child help choose a toy for them, I know they will smile brighter this holiday season.  Please wrap the gift and place the heart form our Angel Tree on top. Gifts will be collected until December 20th.
  • Our Scholastic Book Fair begins on Monday and will last all week. The book fair will be open from 7:45am until 6:00pm. On Thursday, our favorite Big Red Dog, Clifford, will be visiting from 4:00pm until 6:00pm. Remember, books make great holiday gifts for your child!
  • Our VPK, Kinder and 1st Grade students will be going on a field trip to Actor’s Playhouse on Thursday, December 14th. As always, parents are invited to attend.
  • Our last Parent’s Night Out of 2017 will take place next Saturday, December 16th, from 6:00pm-11:00pm. This is a great opportunity to leave your kids with us and do some last minute shopping.

Dear Parents,
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa all throughout the school.  Our kids love this time of the year where they can learn about different holidays.  Thanks a million to everyone who brought in items for our garage sale that will take place tomorrow (come and shop) as well as those that took books of raffle tickets to sell in support of Mia’s cancer journey.  We still have books left if anyone wants to take some to sell to family and friends over the holidays. We have more than 50 amazing prizes and the tickets are only $5 each.  I have always said we have the kindest families at our school.
Speaking of kindness, some of you have asked about our holiday angel tree.  We will begin putting up hearts on the front window next week.  Each heart will represent a student from our school whose families could use a little bit of extra holiday joy.  Should you wish to pick one of their names and have your child help choose a toy for them, I know they will smile brighter this holiday season.  Toys will be collected until December 20th.
Lots of excitement coming up this month….Our book fair will start on December 11th (a change from the calendar) and Clifford The Big Red Dog will be here on December 14th from 4:00-6:00 (We are looking for someone tall to be in the Clifford suit during that time).  Don’t forget to sign up for Parents Night Out on December 16th from 6:00-11:00 pm.  This is great time to leave your kids with us and do that last minute holiday shopping.  The following week on December 22nd, Santa will be here from 7:45-9:00 to take photos with our students and bring them little gifts.
Remember we will be closed from December 25th to January 1.  We will reopen on Tuesday, January 2. Finally, thanks Miss Sammy for a fabulous Family Story-Time.
Have a great weekend,

Dear Parents,
This has been a week filled with preparations for Thanksgiving.  You will be so impressed with all of the projects that have been completed.  Our teachers have worked so hard to make their class feasts special for our students and families.  Please be sure to click on your child’s letter in the margin to find out the time for their individual feast.  We would love for families to join us on this special day Tuesday.  Due to limited class space, we can only allow each child to bring 1 guest.  Please also remember that our insurance will not allow younger sibling on site, even infants.  If you signed up to bring something for the feast, please drop it off at your child’s class if they are in the main wing.  Silver Door classes are asked to drop off in the Science Lab and East wing classes, we will have tables set up in the main wing for your items.  We will warm anything that needs to be heated.  I am sure you have seen the beautiful family turkey projects in our front window.  We can accept these until Tuesday to put on display.  They will be picked up by a local homeless shelter Wednesday afternoon to adorn their cafeteria on Thanksgiving.
Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to donate items for the raffle to raise funds for Mia’s cancer treatments and expenses.  So far we have a diamond ring valued at $595, 5 oil changes, makeovers, free haircuts, a family photo shoot, teeth whitening trays and product valued at $400, and we are throwing in a $150 tuition credit.  If you have a business, restaurant, or work at a hotel or other venue or provide goods and services and wish to donate a prize, let us know. With regard to the garage sale fundraiser, we will have a truck outside our school on December 1 for you to drop off your items to be sorted for the sale.  We will be looking for volunteers that week and the morning of the sale.
Please mark your calendars, we will be closed on November 23rd and 24th.  We will be open on November 22nd even though public schools are closed.  If you have elementary school kids who need care that day, please sign up for care in advance.
We all have so much to be thankful for. Wishing you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Finally, thank you to everyone who has taken the time to complete the family survey that is needed before we can continue with our national accreditation renewal.  If you have not done so, please click here to take the survey in English.
