Dear Parents,
Even though it was a really short week, we have lots to report.  This week our students started planting in our school garden.  So far we have planted tomatoes and pumpkins. Next week we will continue with corn, beans, and carrots.  I can’t wait to see everything when it is grown.  We also had the canopy installed on the infant toddler playground.  Special thanks to Arielle’s grandparents for their help in getting it up.  We have also ordered two 12×12 shade sails to hang from the edge of the canopy to the fence to provide more shade on that playground.
After the installation was done, I realized that there was significant damage to our rubber flooring on that playground from the storm.  I called the company who did our playground renovation and have arranged to have them come out and upgrade the rubber on the infant toddler playground.  The cost will be about $3,500 but I think that it will be money very well spent as we will have two completely renovated play areas.  They will do the work this weekend while we are closed!
As you read last week, we are in the window of pursuing our National Accreditation for NAEYC (we accredit every 5 years) we are required to have families complete a survey.  Yesterday I sent out an email with the link to the surveys.  We ask that every family take a moment to complete it as we must have 75% returned to move forward in the accreditation process.  If you have 2 children in the school, please complete it twice so that we will get credit for both children.
If you did not pick up a turkey cutout from the front desk, don’t forget to grab one and work with your family to decorate it.  Use any media you wish; colored rice, pasta, beans, feathers, recycled items, etc.  We will display them in the front window and then donated them to the local homeless shelter for Thanksgiving.
Finally I am thrilled to report that Mia is doing great with her chemo treatments and the doctors feel she is responding really well.  We had an idea for an easy fundraiser for her from a parent from our school.  She suggest holding a raffle.  She is donating a holiday makeup Glam session and also one Microblading treatment.  If you own a business, manage a hotel, have a restaurant or other type of gift certificate you can donate let me know and we will pool all of the prizes and perhaps hold a raffle in Mia’s honor.
Have a great weekend,
davis

Dear Parents,
What a spooktacular week we had at Kids For Kids Academy.  Thank you to everyone who sent in treats for our students and for the homeless students.  We filled 218 bags so that the kids at Chapman Partnership Shelter had sweet treats for Halloween.  We also had a huge amount of parent volunteers.  You were a huge part of our success.  For those of you who popped in, you saw our students making candy bags for the homeless, playing Halloween games, listening to Halloween stories, and doing Halloween themed art and cooking activities.  I think my favorite was the costume parades.
Thanks a million to the families who donated to Mia Rios to help her during her cancer treatments.  Her family is very thankful to have received $3,100 from our school families and staff.  Our collection will be ongoing for those who still wish to participate.  We will also be holding a garage sale to raise money for the family.  It will take place on Saturday, December 2nd so start cleaning out your closets and toy boxes now.  We will take donations starting December 1st and also ask families to drop off larger items early morning on December 2nd.
As we move into November, we get ready for Thanksgiving.  Next week we will have cut out cardboard turkey forms for families to take home.  This is a family project so please use your imagination and decorate it using any media that you wish.  When you are done, return to the school and we will use them to decorate our front window.  Also we will be collecting Publix gift cards in any denomination starting at $5.  We do this every year to make baskets for families in our school who could use some support during Thanksgiving.  We used to do canned food donations but really feel that families should be able to choose the groceries they want for their Thanksgiving celebrations.  Families who share their hearts with someone else will get a paper heart to put on our turkey in the front window.
Finally, as we are in the window of pursuing our National Accreditation for NAEYC (we accredit every 5 years) we are required to have families complete a survey.  You will get the link to this survey at the middle of next week.  We ask that every family take a moment to complete it as we must have 75% returned to move forward in the accreditation process.  If you have 2 children in the school, please complete it twice so that we will get credit for both children.  Please remember that we are closed next Friday, November 10th for Veterans Day.
Have a great weekend,

Dear Parents,
This week was filled with emotion at our school as we found out that one of our longtime students, Mia Rios, was diagnosed with Leukemia.  Mia, now 6 and in our first grade program, has been a student at our school since she was 6 months old.  Our school family will do whatever we can to help Mia’s family and I want to thank everyone who has already donated to our charity Kids 4 Kids for doing so.  Families who asked for their accounts to be drafted through EFT have been drafted.  We have had 2 families ask us to bill their accounts an extra $25 a month to help the family for the next year, how generous.  Others have asked about fundraisers we can do.  Some ideas have been a spaghetti take out dinner and also a garage sale.  Both great ideas….The garage sale will take place in January so hold on to all those things you plan to get rid of after the holidays, they will come in handy.  Should you still wish to donate, the best way it to drop off a check made out to Kids 4 Kids or ask us to EFT your account.  Kids 4 Kids is a non profit so all donations are tax deductible and 100% of funds will go to the family.  You can also click here to have your donation billed to your credit card.  Another great idea is when you go to Publix for your own shopping needs, grab a $5 Publix card.  Lots of little things add up!  We will also be putting together a committee of parents and staff to brainstorm other ways we can “Move Mountains For Mia”.  If you are interested in attending a meeting  please reply to this email.  There is a link from our homepage to follow Mia’s Facebook posts.  It is times like these that we can all feel so blessed for the good health of our own children.
Next week is our famous Halloween Happening.  Thank you to everyone who has dropped off a bag of candy to be used for our candy bag project to fill 200 decorated bags for homeless kids.  We have also started sorting non candy items for our costume parade.  One parent brought in a bag from Target with 50 little Halloween trinkets and it only cost $5.  Other items that can be sent in are things like fruit snacks, little bags of goldfish, pretzels, rings, plastic animals, etc.  Below your will find the schedule of events for the day.  We need all hands on deck so if you can make it, please do.  Students should be sent to school in their costumes with a change of clothing in a bag.  No masks, toys, or weapons of any kind please.
Have a great weekend,

Dear Parents,
What an action packed week we had at our school.  The feedback for the fabulous school photo proofs was amazing.  Many of you have reached out to be to see if you could get digital images for less than the $25 per image the photographer was charging.  I reached out to her and this is what she is going to do for our families.  One digital picture is $25, a package for up to 4 is $50, 5-8 is $75, all images would have printing rights up to an 8×10 and to use on social media etc.  I also let her know that since her website has a minumum order of $40 and many of you already ordered packages but just want a few other item, we have found a workaround for her website.  If you wish to order less than $45, send her an email at info@yesisilva.com with the image numbers and what you want to order.  Drop off the payment here at the school (cash or check to Yesenia Silva) and she will process your orders.  I saw all of the images and they were just amazing.  Please keep in mind if you did not preorder, you can still get the packages but at an additional $5 per package charge.  If you did order a package, you will have until Wednesday to put a heart on your favorite photo.  If you do not do so, she will choose the one that is the best and print your package.  Also, some families have expressed an interest in using Yesi for your holiday family photos.  She will be doing a shoot for families from our school here at the school by appointment only.  Email her if you are interested and she will give you the dates.
This week we welcomed many new families to our Monthly Family Story Time.  Sorry if it seemed a bit chaotic, we did not expect such a big crowd.  We will know for next month to  have a second staff member and encourage more families to attend.  Special thanks to Miss Sammy who will be taking over as our Story Time facilitator.  I heard that she reads a mean story!  I loved doing Story Time myself for the first 12 years that the school was open.  I felt though that it was time to pass the reins to our younger future educators who are following the college path to become certified teachers.  Great experiences for them and for our families as well.  I will be passing along my multitude of Jammies to Miss Sammy.  If you missed it, we will be getting your child’s free book of the month to them over the next couple of days.
This week found our VPK, K, and First Graders on their first fieldtrip.  Things started a bit hectic at the Pumpkin Patch as the person in charge of the education program had an emergency and did not show up.  Thankfully, a replacement was sent and the kids got to hear a story in the pumpkin patch and stroll around and pick out a pumpkin of their own.  Check out the photos on our facebook page.  www.facebook.com/kidsforkidsacademy . Special thanks to all of the parents who came to volunteer and especially Noah’s dad who ran out and got the kids bottled water for me.
Finally, thank you to everyone who has already sent in a back of candy to be donated to homeless kids and a bag of non candy items for our own students to enjoy in our Halloween Parade.  We will accept both items up until October 30th.  Remember to mark your calendar for our Halloween Happening on the 31st at 9:00 am.  We can use all the volunteers we can get!
Have a great weekend,

Dear Parents,
Say Cheese!  This week our student took school pictures.  Check your email early next week for a link to view the images. If you ordered a package, use the link to put a heart on your ONE favorite pose for the photographer to print.  You will have a week to make your choice or she will pick her favorite for you.  We took photos of all students so if you did not order, it is not too late.  If your child was absent for picture day we will let you know in the future when the make up day will take place.
My staff has worked hard to assess your child using the Ages and Stages assessment.  All students younger than VPK who have been at our school for at least a month were assessed. I personally reviewed and scored all of the assessments. I will be reaching out to parents if there are developmental concerns or even borderline scores.  If you do not hear from me you can assume that all is fine. I will have the assessments on my desk for the next two weeks if you are curious and want to stop by my office I will gladly share the results.  After that, we will file the assessments in your child’s school folder so that we can use it as a basis for future developmental comparisons.
HALLOWEEN HAPPENING is just around the corner….For those of you who are new to our school, this event takes place from 9 am -11 am and we welcome as many volunteers as possible.  Kids can come to school in their costumes with a change of clothing in a bag.  Nothing scary, and no masks, toys or weapons.  We ask all kids to donate one bag of NON CANDY items (little party favors, goldfish, gummies, etc) for our costume parade.  Although we don’t permit candy in our school, we do ask our students to donate a bag of candy (no nuts please) as we make bags every year so that homeless kids can enjoy the simple pleasure of a bag of candy on Halloween.  Thank you for those of you who have already brought in items.  We will collect all items at the front desk.
Finally, an update on our playground restoration….Special thanks to Arielle Carranza’s grandpa who surprised us and put up our new shade sails on the playground.  He is also going to put up the beautiful canopies donated by Anthony Lopez’s family.  We are just waiting for the wood poles to arrive.  It has been hard to find them since Irma but they are on the way.  We are hoping that in my next letter I am able to report that they are up!

Dear Parents,
We were sad that we had to cancel our playground shade installation.  Not only did everything not arrive, but Saturday is to be a real rainy day.  Thank you to everyone who signed up and for your willingness to help.

Attention parents of VPK and Silver Door students: We started passing out field trip forms on Friday from the front desk.   If you do not receive it, please be sure to ask the front desk for it one day next week.  Our first field trip is scheduled for October 20th.  The form and letter will give you all of the other dates and some important guidelines.
FACEBOOK…are you our friend?  I am doing my best to post photos almost everyday.  I also mention the class that is in the post so check it out and share the photos with your friends and family.  If you are not our friend on Facebook, stop by our page: www.facebook.com/kidsforkidsacademy.
Monday we will send home preorder envelopes for school pictures.  If you have more than one child in the school, let us know if you want a photo of both children together and/or separate. Sibling photos will take place on the picture day for the oldest child.  We take photos of all children so that we will have them for the school yearbook, however, the photographer will only print photo packages for families who turn in payment envelopes.  If you are on the EFT program, we can gladly draft your accounts for school pictures so please indicate that on your envelope.  You may send your child in any clothing for the photo but please send a school uniform to change them into after photos are taken.
HALLOWEEN HAPPENING is just around the corner….For those of you who are new to our school, this event takes place from 9 am -11 am and we welcome as many volunteers as possible.  Kids can come to school in their costumes with a change of clothing in a bag.  Nothing scary, no masks, toys or weapons.  More information will be forthcoming!
Finally, we will be collecting NEW backpacks, school supplies, and individually wrapped school snacks and toiletries for families who will be relocating here from Puerto Rico.  We have been alerted by the school district that they expect to welcome many kids to the public schools and we want to help them feel welcome.
Have a great weekend,
