Dear Parents,
This week our travels took our students to Colombia.  I really loved seeing the special art projects and cooking activities that some kids did with regard to their studies of Colombia and its culture.  Next week our kids will jet off to Japan!  Let’s see what great things they learn about.  Our school got a special cooking grant for the second half of the summer called Common Threads.  Our Brown and Orange Door classes started learning about healthy cooking and participated in a few cooking classes this week.  They will continue to use this curricula for the rest of the summer.  Those two classes also went on a great off site field trip to Bird Bowl.  They learned about numbers as they bowled down the pins and said their ending scores. Our water play kids were also happy that it waited to rain until after water play this Friday.  It is proving to be a favorite time of the week.
As our school is becoming recognized as a model school with regard to our healthy initiative, the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) will be conducting a study with our families and staff.  They will be conducting interviews and information session with a few staff members and 15 parents.  For parents, there is a financial incentive to participate.  Parents who participate in the 90 minute presentation will get a $50 Visa or MasterCard gift card for your time.  We will also allow your currently enrolled child to stay here at school while you are in the discussion group.  The only criteria is that you have a child ages 2-5.  If you would like to sign up to in any of the groups below, please see someone at the front desk.  Sessions will take place from 5:00-6:30 pm on the following days.
Wednesday, August 2, 2017
One 90-minute Group Discussion with Parents/Caregivers – in English
Thursday, August 3, 2017
One 90-minute Group Discussion with Parents/Caregivers -English
Friday, August 4, 2017
One 90-minute Group Discussion with Parents/caregivers – in Spanish
Finally, please mark your calendar for the following dates:  Our back to school event will be held on Saturday, August 19th.  From noon – 1:00 pm all families of children infants through age 3 and from 1:00-2:00 pm for families of children ages 4 and up.  Everyone should come and meet their new teacher, see the new classrooms, and pick up your blankets, pillows, and school uniforms.  Please also note that as per our school calendar, we will be closing at 2:30 on Thursday, August 17th and will be closed on Friday, August 18th for our annual professional development and to prepare the school for our fall term.
Have a great weekend,

Dear Parents,
This week our world travelers spent their time learning about Cuba.  Many thanks to the families who sent in things to share with the students.  I heard that the mango smoothies that some of the classes made were really yummy.  We were all happy that the rain this week let up in time for our kids to have a wonderful waterplay day.  Our Red Door kids are really loving going to The Hero Gym once a week.  I am doing that for them since they do not have the soccer class and we want them to have something special in its place.  Unfortunately, they will be closing their doors at the end of the month so this will only take place two more times. Thanks to our parents for sending your children to camp ready and dressed for the waterplay.  It makes it much easier for our staff.  Next week our band of travelers will be off to Columbia.  I can’t wait to see the surprises that await them.
Even with 5 weeks left of summer, we are already getting ready for back to school in the fall.  Please mark your calendars now for our Family Fun Day that will take place on Saturday, August 19th.  VPK, Kindergarten and First Grade will be held from 1:00-2:00 pm and all other groups will be from noon to 1:00.  If you have a company and would like to have a table at the event free of charge, please let me know so that I can reserve a space for you.  In an effort to shorten or even eliminate the lines for form filling at our back to school event, we ask that all parents see Delly for just 5 minutes between now and the end of the summer to complete your new forms….There are only a few!
Finally, if your child attends Jack D. Gordon or Norma Butler, we have a family from our school who embroiders our school uniforms.  They also do polos with the logos from both of these elementary schools.  You can avoid the long lines and the uniform stores and save some money by placing an order here.  We will have a rack of samples here next week for your viewing.
 Have a great weekend,

Dear Parents,
This week found our little travelers staying close to home. In celebration of July 4th, our students spent their week learning about America. I am sure by now you have seen some of the wonderful art projects around the school dedicated to this theme. In addition, some of our classes did little cooking projects using fruits that were in our patriotic colors. Please forgive me but I have gotten a little behind on my Facebook posts. I am hoping to catch up this week so you may see lots of posts all at once.
In addition to the studies on America, our students got a great workout with our soccer coach. We are so, so happy to be enjoying our artificial grass on the soccer field and the misting fans are keeping our kids cool and the mosquitoes at bay!
Next week our travels will take our students to Cuba. If you have family that is from Cuba or you have anything to send in to share with your child’s class, please feel free to do so. Since this was a short week, I will keep my letter to you brief. Please make sure to click on the link on the side of this page to read the letter that your child’s teacher wrote for you. It will give you a really great idea of what went on during the week in the class.

Dear Parents,
This week our travels took our students to Trinidad. Students took part in art and cooking activities related to their “travels”. I am so amazed how much happiness a little water can bring. Our little water days are proving to be a huge hit to help beat the summer heat. Many of our classes are also enjoying having picnic lunches outside afterward and using our new grass and rubber as a place to stretch out and dry off.
This week we had to close the playground for a day and a half to have our trees cut back in preparation for hurricane season, although I’m being optimistic that we will not be affected. Since the outside time had to be cancelled, at my expense, I paid for the classes with cancelled playground time to go to the Hero Gym for some indoor exercise fun.
Our classes are also really enjoying their weekly excursions with our new digital storybook program from Scholastic. If you have not tried it yet, here is the log in information as we are field-testing it until the end of July and you can gain free access on your devices. Scholastic calls it BookFlix.

I want to also recognize the hard work of our soccer coach as he has needed to be really creative with the kids when it rains. He has come up with some activities to do with the children in the courtyard area outside my office on rainy days so the kids still get a chance to run around and stretch their legs. Also a shout out to our music teacher Mr. Brandon for bringing his gifts and talents to our summer and school year program.
Next week we will be closed on Tuesday in celebration of July 4th. On Wednesday, our Brown and Orange Door classes will be going on a field trip to the Movies at Kendall. Those students are asked to arrive no later than 8:45 on that day. Parents of students in those classes please make sure you see someone at the front to sign the permission form for this trip as well as the other three that will take place over the summer. If you do not wish for your child to attend any of the trips, please note it on the form and we will only bill you the $12 field trip fee for the ones your child attends.
VPK families for next year…..Please drop of your VPK certificates ASAP. If we do not have them by the second week of July, you could forfeit the subsidy and will have to pay $60 more each week for VPK. If you have not applied for it yet, see Amanda for the instructions to apply. ALL 4 year olds in Florida are eligible for this .
LOST AND FOUND: We found several single gold earrings, if you lost any see Amanda. We are missing a few pair of watershoes. If you have a pair that does not belong to you, we have 2 students who are missing them. Please be kind enough to bring them in.
Finally, thank you for all of your kind words of referral. We are close to being at capacity in most of our classes for the fall. Please note that if you refer someone and they enroll, 30 days after the have been at our school you will get a $125 tuition credit to your account or a check, whichever you desire. If your child will be returning for the fall and you have not paid your annual $225 registration fee, please see Delly to pay that by July 31st to hold your space for fall. Families who participate in the EFT program, your accounts will have a draft for that amount on that date.

Dear Parents,
Grab your passports everyone….This week found our students “traveling” to Panama.  I am sure you saw the artwork on the walks of the classroom.  In addition to going to Panama, our students in the East wing took a ride on Miss Cuqui’s Adventures in A Box www.adventuresinabox.org and learned about and held some amazing creepy crawlies.  Everyone also enjoyed soccer fun on our field and our Friday water days are proving to be a huge success in this summer heat.
With regard to my last letter about the frequency of our weekly class letters, if you click on the link in the sidebar you can read your child’s class letter for the past 2 weeks.  Moving forward, they will go back to doing the letters every week so make sure you take a moment to not only read my letter but also ready the class letters.  The teachers really work hard on them to keep you informed on the fabulous things going on in their classes.

Dear Parents,
We had a great start of the summer with the opening of our summer camp this week.  Thanks for your patience as we waiting for our school T-Shirts to arrive.  Remember, your child is free to wear the school T-Shirt daily or the polo shirt, the choice is  yours.  This week our campers spent the week getting ready to celebrate their Dads for Father’s Day.  The week ended with an awesome Donuts With Dad event on Friday morning.  Be sure to check out our Facebook page to see the photos of the kids with their Dad’s and other special men in their lives.  We will have those photos for you  shortly in the front window.  When you see them, go ahead and take them as our little gift to you.
The kids also had a “spashtacular” time during our water play day on Friday.  Please remember to send your child to camp on Fridays in their bathing suit with a complete change of clothing and a labeled towel and sneakers and socks in a plastic grocery bag.  For their own safety, water shoes should also be sent in.  Our students also enjoyed a new program we are offering to all students except Green Door called Digital Storybook.  Students are able to watch as animation comes alive and view stories projected on the wall instead of in a little or big book.  It has been a huge hit.    We have a free trial for the school and families can also access it at home on your computer or tablet.  If you wish to try it out with your child here is the information on the website and the log in information.  I hope you enjoy trying it out.

Our oldest kids will be going on 5 fieldtrips this summer.  Kids in Brown and Orange door may attend these trips as long as parents sign a permission form.  In house trips are $10 per child and off site trips are $12 as we must account for the bus.  Please mark these fieldtrip dates and keep in mind if they fall on a Friday, those students will not participate in waterplay on those days.
  • June 23, onsite, Adventures in a Box.  This trip as it is on site will also be opened to Gold Door Students who wish to pay the $10 admission fee.
  • July 5, Regal Cinemas Kendall, $12
  • July 18, Bird Bowl, $12
  • July 28, Actor’s Playhouse $12
  • August 9, Regal Cinemas Kendall, $12.
The progress reports for children in all classes with
the exception of VPK, Kindergarten, and First Grade
are completed and can be viewed on Life Cubby.

Finally, although I will be sending a letter each week, the classes will be sending a recap every other week since you will get a daily recap in Life Cubby.  This week you will only find my recap.  Next week, I will remind you to click on the class links on the sidebar to reach the class letters.
