Dear Parents,
Thank you to everyone who replied to my last email.  In all 77 parents sent a reply to enter for the drawing for the $50 tuition credit.  We put all of the names into a box and my daughter drew the winning family.  Congratulations to Ian Davidson’s family.  We will be crediting your account $50.  Be on the look out as I may offer some sort of prize once a month or so to see who is reading these little letters.
My apologies to the Silver Door classes as the class link was not correct in the margin.  Hopefully you all got the private email I sent with the letter and this week the link should be fixed so you can read your class letters using the link in the yellow margin.  For all families, clicking on the class link in the margin will keep you up to speed with what is going on in your child’s class….and the teachers really take time to write it, so I hope you will take a moment each week to read it.
This week found our students settling into their class routines.  We are seeing much less crying and separation anxiety with our newer kids.  I would also like to thank parents for settling into the routine and getting your kids here on time for our breakfast window, as well as parents for students in the East Wing arriving in time for formal instruction to begin.
A little word about schedules.  By now teachers have tweaked their schedules to keep up with the demands and well-being of their students.  Please keep in mind in our younger classes in the main wing, the teacher may not be following the schedule to a “T” for a few weeks as they need to take the lead from the maturity level of her students.  Perhaps it states circle time, storytime, or playground first thing in the morning.  You may arrive and see all the kids playing with toys on the floor instead.  This could be so the teacher has a chance to teach them cleanup routines or perhaps they just need more time to play before jumping into their day or they need to get on a diaper changing routine.  Sometimes it takes the younger kids a whole month to be “on schedule”.  Please remember it is a process and a goal to work towards.
Hopefully, as each day goes by, you will see more and more in the Cubby. With the students getting into their routines and the demands for the teachers decreasing, they will be able to spend more time on their iPads posting entries. When in doubt feel free to pick up the phone and call and we can give you updates on your child.  Also, parents are asked to check their children’s nails weekly as they grow fast and this will prevent accidental scratches.
A few words about hurricanes and tropical storms as we are in that season.  In the event of a storm of any kind, to determine if we will be open or closed, please stay tuned to your local news.  If they declare it is not safe for Miami-Dade County School students to attend school, and they close schools, we will do the same.  Also, to assist families who went through the hurricane in Texas, we will be a collection site for the military effort mentioned below.
Thank you for any assistance you can offer.  If you have not already done so, please review our parent handbook at the back of our calendar for other policies and procedures.
Please be sure to mark your calendars for Open House and note the dates and some changes in the margins.  Also due to a scheduling conflict Parents Night Out will be held on 9/23.  Finally, in observance of Labor Day, we will be closed on Monday.  Parents who participate in the EFT auto draft program may see that funds will not come out of your account until a day later since banks will be closed on Monday.
Have a great long weekend with your families,
davis

Dear Parents,
It is with great joy that I welcome you to the 2017-2018 school year.  For those of you who are new to our school, please know that this letter goes out every Friday (sometimes Saturday morning) to keep you informed on what is going on in our school during the preceding week.  PLEASE, PLEASE after you read my letter, click on the link in the right margin and read the teacher’s letter. There you will learn about the activities of the week and also what child is being named as the student of the week.  These letters can also be found on our school website under the classes tab.
Our school year is off to a great start, thanks for bearing with us as we worked out the kinks in our schedules.  Remember that all kids from our East Wing (silver, gold, brown, purple, and orange) who arrive from 7:30 am – 7:45 should be dropped off at our Science Lab for breakfast.  We have teachers who arrive at 7:45 and 8:00 who will pick up those eating breakfast and take them to the playground.  The last breakfast is served to East Wing kids at 8:00 a.m..  Anyone who ate breakfast at home, dropped off at 7:45 or later should go right to the playground.  Please note that VPK kids start walking to class at 8:20.  Please make sure to drop off prior to that time.    After that time, you must bring your child to the main office to be walked over with a key.  Teachers cannot open the front doors in the morning. In our main wing, breakfast is served up until 8:15 so that the meal service is over by 8:30.  Remember, we cannot allow food to be brought into the school unless your child has a food allergy or religious restriction and cannot serve meals outside of our meal service time.  If that is the case, see someone in the office to fill out a special form.
A word about Life Cubby….The first week the teachers spent much of their time helping students adjust.  Please excuse them if you did not get many entries this week.  Also please note that the time in and time out postings are NOT real time.  The only accurate time in and out can only be maintained when you punch your child in and out on our time clock.  The teachers spend the morning greeting and serving breakfast to the children.  When they have the room under control and are in most cases in Circle Time, one teacher punches in all of the children.  Same goes for sign out time in Life Cubby.  If teaches are on the playground or working with a child when each parents picks up, it is impossible to stop and log each child out.  At the end of the day when things wind down, teacher log out the children.  If you have not gotten a link to sign into your Life Cubby, please see Amanda or send us an email.
Below this paragraph you can click on a link to see your child’s class schedule.  This is a work in progress but for the most part, it will show you what your child is doing at a given time.
Green Door             Brown             Silver K
Red Door                Orange            Silver 1
Yellow Door            Purple
Blue Door               Gold 1
Rainbow                 Gold 2
Please note the Open House dates in red in the right margin.  We had to change the 9/13 date due to a conflict with Open House at Jack Gordon.  All Open House events start at 7:00 in the Adult Daycare in our shopping center.  I will meet briefly with parents then you will have a chance to visit your child’s classroom.  Please do your best to attend as the kids and teachers put a lot into the night for you.  Open House will be over by 8:00.
To know who is actually reading this letter, I will be having a contest.  After reading this letter please reply with your child’s name.  Those names will be entered into a drawing for a $50 tuition credit.  You can also ask someone at the front desk to enter you in the drawing.  I will announce the winner in the letter next week.
Have a great weekend,
davis

Dear Parents,
This week, our students traveled to France. They learned that the French flag has three colors, red, white and blue. They talked about things found in France, like the Eiffel Tower and the Mona Lisa, and they learned some words in French like “Bonjour”, and “Merci”. Some classes even counted to ten in French!
It is so hard to believe that our last full week of summer has come to a close! Our students really enjoyed all their summer enrichment activities, from Digital Storybook to music, soccer, and of course water day!
We will be open regular hours on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week, but please note that we will be closing at 2:30 on Thursday, August 17th and will be closed on Friday, August 18th for our annual professional development and to prepare the school for our fall term.
Thank you to all the families that have stopped by so far to complete the fall paperwork. If you have not had the opportunity to stop by and would like to avoid the long lines during Family Fun Day on August 19th, stop by between Monday and Thursday morning.
We are sad that summer is almost gone, but are looking forward to another great school year.
Have a great weekend,
davis

Dear Parents,
So sorry for the delay in getting this to you.  We were up to our eyebrows in backpacks.  On Saturday, we had the pleasure of having some of our families join us to deliver 600 backpacks to some very deserving children living at South Dade and Redland Center migrant camps.
Last week I reported that our students were off to France.  Apparently there was a “flight change” (for all classes except Red Door) and they were really in India learning about the traditions and customs of the people.  This week Miss Murielle returned from vacation.  Since she is from France, she will give our classes some insights as they journey there.
Our students are really enjoying the summer enrichments, of digital storybook, soccer, and music, but most of all the enrichment that is tops is our water play Fridays.  Thank you for sending your child in prepared for this event.  Our school is a buzz with teachers already getting prepared for the fall semester.  Remember, with the exception of uniforms, we provide all needed materials including school bags, blankets, and pillow.  We even have a grandma who makes pillow cases that we will have available at our back to school event for only $4.  (Delly already has some if you want to get one early).  The only kids who need to bring their own backpacks are our kindergarten and first graders.  Thanks to all of the families who have stopped in to see Delly to fill out your fall paperwork.  There are still 9 weekdays to do that.  If you can’t stop by to do it prior to our back to school event, you can do it then.  Doing it early will save you time in line on that Saturday.  ALL families need to fill out these few forms every year.
Please also note that as per our school calendar, we will be closing at 2:30 on Thursday, August 17th and will be closed on Friday, August 18th for our annual professional development and to prepare the school for our fall term.  We are excited to welcome all of our families at our back to school event on Saturday, August 19th.  Please mark your calendars. All students ages 3 and under are invited to see their new room and meet their teachers from noon to 1 pm.  VPK, Kindergarten, and First Grade will be held from 1:00 2:00p.m.  You can pick up your new blanket, pillow, and school bag and purchase uniforms on that day.  If you wish to get your uniforms early, we have them in stock now.
Finally, I will be taking a little time away with my kids this summer and will be out of town Tuesday, August 8-11.  I will have limited access to my email during those dates.  If you need anything, Delly or Amanda will be on hand to help you.
Have a great weekend,
davis

Dear Parents,
This week found our world travelers in Japan.  Not only did they make flags and learn some words and customs, some groups even made fruit sushi.  Next week our little travelers will be visiting India!  Please accept my apologies, I have been really behind in my Facebook posts.  I promise to catch up next week.  This week has been a real blur.  Our elementary after school enrichment kids had their last week of camp so there will be a lot less kids here the last few weeks of summer which will be great for our staff.  They will be starting to get our school ready for the fall semester.
This week our oldest kids also helped to fill 600 backpacks that we will deliver next Saturday, August 5th to two local migrant camps.  If you would like to volunteer to assist, meet at our school on August 5th at 8 am.  Likewise, if you have toys, books, stuffed toys, and clothing you would like to give away, we will gladly deliver them to the migrant camps when we take our backpacks. Additionally, our Orange and Brown Door kids went on a field trip to Actor’s Playhouse.  They had a real blast!
Thanks for the parents who already stopped by and saw Delly for your fall fee agreements.  If you have not already done so, please stop by so that you can avoid the line at our back to school event.  Just a reminder about the fall semester…Annual registration is due on August 1st to hold your child’s space for the fall.  Families who are on the auto debit program, please be advised that on Monday August 1st we will post that a charge to your ledgers.  It should be withdrawn on August 2nd or 3rd.
Finally, please also note that as per our school calendar, we will be closing at 2:30 on Thursday, August 17th and will be closed on Friday, August 18th for our annual professional development and to prepare the school for our fall term.  We are excited to welcome all of our families at our back to school event on Saturday, August 19th.  Please mark your calendars….All students ages 3 and under are invited to see their new room and meet their teachers from noon to 1 pm.  VPK, Kindergarten and First grade will be held from 1:00 2:00p.m.

Dear Parents,
This week our travels took our students to Colombia.  I really loved seeing the special art projects and cooking activities that some kids did with regard to their studies of Colombia and its culture.  Next week our kids will jet off to Japan!  Let’s see what great things they learn about.  Our school got a special cooking grant for the second half of the summer called Common Threads.  Our Brown and Orange Door classes started learning about healthy cooking and participated in a few cooking classes this week.  They will continue to use this curricula for the rest of the summer.  Those two classes also went on a great off site field trip to Bird Bowl.  They learned about numbers as they bowled down the pins and said their ending scores. Our water play kids were also happy that it waited to rain until after water play this Friday.  It is proving to be a favorite time of the week.
As our school is becoming recognized as a model school with regard to our healthy initiative, the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) will be conducting a study with our families and staff.  They will be conducting interviews and information session with a few staff members and 15 parents.  For parents, there is a financial incentive to participate.  Parents who participate in the 90 minute presentation will get a $50 Visa or MasterCard gift card for your time.  We will also allow your currently enrolled child to stay here at school while you are in the discussion group.  The only criteria is that you have a child ages 2-5.  If you would like to sign up to in any of the groups below, please see someone at the front desk.  Sessions will take place from 5:00-6:30 pm on the following days.
Wednesday, August 2, 2017
One 90-minute Group Discussion with Parents/Caregivers – in English
Thursday, August 3, 2017
One 90-minute Group Discussion with Parents/Caregivers -English
Friday, August 4, 2017
One 90-minute Group Discussion with Parents/caregivers – in Spanish
Finally, please mark your calendar for the following dates:  Our back to school event will be held on Saturday, August 19th.  From noon – 1:00 pm all families of children infants through age 3 and from 1:00-2:00 pm for families of children ages 4 and up.  Everyone should come and meet their new teacher, see the new classrooms, and pick up your blankets, pillows, and school uniforms.  Please also note that as per our school calendar, we will be closing at 2:30 on Thursday, August 17th and will be closed on Friday, August 18th for our annual professional development and to prepare the school for our fall term.
